Apologize
I'm holding on your rope,
Got me ten feet off the ground
I'm hearing what you say but I just can't make a sound
You tell me that you need me
Then you go and cut me down, but wait
You tell me that you're sorry
Didn't think I'd turn around, and say...
It's too late to apologize, it's too late
I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late
I'd take another chance, take a fall
Take a shot for you
And I need you like a heart needs a beat
But it's nothing new
I loved you with a fire red-
Now it's turning blue, and you say...
"Sorry" like the angel heaven let me think was you
But I'm afraid...
It's too late to apologize, it's too late
I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late
It's too late to apologize, it's too late
I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late
It's too late to apologize, yeah
I said it's too late to apologize, yeah-
I'm holdin on your rope, got me ten feet off the ground...
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,

And days o'② lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak'③ a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

在故乡的青山上;
荡浆在碧波上;

①auld lang syne=long long ago.
Auld =old; lang syne =long since ,long ago
②o':of ③tak':take
④We twa ha'e run about braes =We two have run about the small hills.
⑤pu'd: pulled ⑥mony: many
⑦sin': since ⑧frae: from ⑨gie's: give us
2.Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind?
bring…to mind:想起……
例如:The picture brought his fond memory of the past to mind.
Should we so hurry as to kill a hen in order to get more eggs?

8.i'the burn :in the rivulet(small stream)
the burn与下几行中的seas between us braid形成对照;一边是儿时的小溪,一边是汹涌澎湃的海洋。
9.frae morning sun till dine: from morning till noon
10.But seas between us braid ha'e roared: But the seas broad between us have roared.

Cool wind in my hair,
Warm smell of calyptus
Rising up through the air.
Up ahead in the distance,
I saw a shimmering light.
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim,
I had to stop for the night.
There she stood in the doorway,
I heard the mission bell.
I was thinking to myself:
This could be heaven or this could be hell.
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way.
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say:
“Welcome to the Hotel California.
Such a lovely place,
(Such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face.
Plenty of room at the Hotel California,
Any time of year,
(Any time of year)
You can find it here.”
Her mind is tiffany twisted,
She got the Mercedes Benz,
She got a lot of pretty pretty boys
That she calls friends.
How they dance in the courtyard.
Sweet summer sweet.
Some dance to remember some dance to forget.
So I called up the Captain,
“Please bring me my wine.”
(He said)
“We haven't had that spirit here
(Since)
Nineteen sixty-nine.”
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night,
Just to hear them say,
“Welcome to the Hotel California.
Such a lovely place,
(Such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face.
Living it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise
(What a nice surprise)
Bring you alibis.
Mirrors on the ceiling and pink champagne on ice.(She said)
“We are all just prisoners here of our own device.”
And in the master's chambers,
They gathered for the feast.
They stabbed it with their steely knives,
But they just can't kill the beast.
The last thing I remember (I was) running for the door,
I had to find the passage
Back to the place I was before.
“Relax,”said the night man,
(“We are programmed to recieve,)
You can check out any time you like,
But you can never leave.”

Introduction
Whitney Houston was born in August 1963 to singer Emily Drinkard, who performed under the name of Cissy, and her husband and manager, John Houston. Whitney grew up listening and learning from her legendary cousin Dionne Warwick and her mother's close friends, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, and Roberta Flack. All of these excellent female singers of the 60's, 70's, and 80's had a profound influence on young Whitney.
By the age of 11, Whitney was a soloist at the church where her mother Cissy served as the music minister. Cissy firmly gave high quality vocal lessons to Whitney. This training, combined with the strong religious convictions in her talented family, provided the security and support Whitney needed to develop her natural singing ability. In her mid-teen years, Whitney had began singing with Cissy, Chaka Khan and Lou Rawls.
Her voice, looks, and determination led the Rock magazine Rolling Stone to call her,“an earth-shattering performer. ”Whitney also found work as model and in 1981 appeared on the covers of“Glamour”and “Seventeen. ”Modeling led to acting roles on TV and in movies. Whitney also continued to sing and released her first album in 1985. On it were the hits,“You Give Good Love,”and“The Greatest Love of All. ”
Recognizing all the many people who contributed to her fame and wanting to assist others who needed help,in 1989 Whitney established a non-profit organization called“The Whitney Houston Foundation For Children, Inc. ”
This organization encourages self-empowerment for young people, provides help for homeless children and for children with cancer or AIDS. This foundation recognizes that we all need to help one another if we are serious about building a quality future for humans.
In 1992,“The Bodyguard”movie earned over 400 million dollars and was a hugely successful showcase for Whitney's acting and singing talents. The Grammy Award winning music from the movie sold well over 33 million copies and is considered to be one of the best selling soundtracks of all time. Two of these songs are featured here.
In“The Bodyguard,”Whitney plays the role of Rachel Marron, a singer that someone is trying to kill. The singer's manager hires a tough professional guard, Frank Farmer, played by Kevin Costner, to protect her.
In this scene at the Fountain Blue Hilton Hotel, Farmer happens to meet another guard, named Greg Portman. Both are now private guards, but at one time they used to work for the Secret Secret Service and guard the President.
Portman: Hello Frank.
Frank: Hello Portman, it's been a long time. You're on the job?
Portman: Yeah. Well, technically I'm off duty, but the Governor might show up here later. So I thought I'd give it a light check. Someone else is covering him now.
Frank: How old is she?
Portman: Maybe 18.
In this very quick conversation Frank has accurately guessed that the“Someone”“covering”the Governor is not another guard providing security cover, but is in fact a naked young woman who is covering the Governor with her body. Or at least she is covering the Governor's penis with some part of her anatomy. Portman confirms this and implies that she is 18, or less, years old.
This is one of innumerable American movie sexual conversations that are difficult to translate and thus are either poorly translated or simply ignored. A similar problem is that nude and sex scenes are often cut when movies are shown outside of America.
For instance, in the movie“Starship Troupers,”the translated Chinese version omitted the nude scene where male and female soldiers are talking while sharing a shower room together. Since in the Chinese version you don' t get to“meet”and listen to one of the naked woman soldiers, a later scene where she silently decides to leave the army, has very little importance and you are left wondering who she is. Yet in the uncut original movie, you can clearly understand the seriousness of her decision.
Let's return to Frank Farmer, Greg Portman, and the entrance of Rachel into the scene.
Rachel: I need a drink. Oh, it's orange juice. So who are you?
Portman: Greg Portman.
Rachel: I take it you met my bodyguard.
Portman: We used to work together.
Rachel: Oh, so well, well. So what do you do now?
Portman: Same thing as Farmer.
Rachel: Two samurais , huh? So are you working now?
Portman: Not right now.
Rachel: Good, because I'm the only person in this room that needs protection. Come on, let's go and get a drink, a real one. (Rachel seductively takes a clinging hold on Portman's arm. )
(The next morning, Rachel and Frank are sitting at a table while being waited on by a maid. )
Rachel: What are you looking at? Probably never had a heavy night in your whole damn disciplined life.
Maid: Coffee?
Rachel:(Nodding) You know, Farmer, you're a selfrighteous son of a bitch. And don't laugh at me. Don't you dare judge me!
Frank: Give me a break, will you? I didn' t tell you to fuck everybody in the hotel.
Rachel: Fuck this. I don't need this shit from you.
From this friendly conversation you understand that Frank is somewhat annoyed with Rachel for having sexwith Portman, and perhaps a few other gentlemen, during the previous night. Rachel, via her promiscuous sexuality, and the bodyguard through his meticulous attention to the details of his job, are initially effective in resisting their mutual attraction. But that persistent desire to get closer, due to lust. respect, love, or some combination, continues to grow. Paradoxical and improbable as it may seem from the above scene, both Rachel and Frank soon end up having sex. Yet both are unwilling to make a longterm commitment.
In“I Have Nothing,”you realize that despite great wealth, Rachel has nothing if she can't have Frank, the man she loves. Can their passionate love survive? Both the guard and the singer have extremely demanding careers that would require them to be separated for long periods of time. Rachel's easy promiscuity and Frank's zealous commitment to being a perfect bodyguard, might preclude a lasting love.
By the end of the movie,it turns out that Portman,Rachel's temporary sex partner and Frank's former colleague, is the person trying to assassinate her. Is the morality message that you really can't trust even those you have sex with? Is this morality idea often repeated in different American movies? Is Rachel's world a tough place? Does she encourage her chances of having problems by the choices she makes?
What do you prefer, lust, love, or a lusty loving friendship? If these questions befuddle you, how prepared are you for an abortion, motherhood and divorce? Life begets life. If words beguile you, can you take a close and hard look at your potential partner's past behavior? Can people ever really change much?
I Have Nothing
Vocal: Whitney Houston
Share my life.
Take me for what I am,
'Cause I'll never change
All my colors for you.
Take my love,
I'll never ask for too much,
Just all that you are
And everything that you do.
I don't really need to look
Very much further.
I don't want to have to go
Where you don't follow.
I don't hold it back again,
This passion inside.
Can't run from myself.
There's nowhere to hide.
Don't make me close one more door.
I don't want to hurt anymore.
Stay in my arms if you dare.
Must I imagine you there?
Don't walk away from me.
I have nothing, nothing, nothing,
If I don't have you,
You, you, you, you, you.
You see through right to the heart of me,
You break down my walls,
With the strength of your love.
Mmm, I never knew
Love like I've known it with you.
Will the memories survive
Ah, one that I can hold on to?
I don't really need to look
Very much further.
I don't want to have to go
Where you don't follow.
I'm holding back again
This passion inside.
I can' t run from myself.
There's nowhere to hide.
Your love I'll remember forever!
Oh, don't make me close one more door.
I don't want to hurt anymore.
Stay in my arms if you dare,
Or must I imagine you there?
Don't walk away from me.
I have nothing, nothing, nothing.
Don't make me close one more door.
I don't want to hurt anymore.
Stay in my arms if you dare,
Must I imagine you there?
Don't walk away from me, Yeah!
Don't walk away from me.
Don't you dare walk away from me.
And I have nothing,
nothing, nothing, If I don't have you, you
If I don't have you
Oh, oh.

It might be you
Stephen Bishop
Time
I've been passing time watching trains go by
All of my life
Lying on the sand, watching seabirds fly
Wishing there would be
Someone waiting home for me
Something's telling me it might be you
It's telling me it might be you
All of my life
Looking back as lovers go walking past
All of my life
Wondering how they met and what makes it last
If I found the place
Would I recognise the face
Something's telling me it might be you
Yeah it's telling me it might be you
So many quiet walks to take
So many dreams to wake
And we've so much love to make
Oh, I think we've gonna need some time
Maybe all we need is time
and it's telling me it might be you
All of my life
I've been saving love songs and lullabies
And there're so much more
No one's ever heard before
Something's telling me it might be you
Yeah, it's telling me it must be you
And I'm feeling it'll just be you
All of my life
it's you
it's you
I've been waiting for all of my life
Maybe it's you (it's you)
Maybe it's you (it's you)
I've been waiting for all of my lifeDashing through the snow,
In a one-horse open sleigh,
O'er the fields we go,
Laughing all the way.
Bells on bobtail ring,
Making spirits bright.
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight.
Jingle bells, Jingle bells,
Jingle all the way!
Oh! What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
A day or two ago,
I thought I' d take a ride,
And soon Miss Fannie Bright
Was seated by my side.
The horse was lean and lank,
Misfortune seemed his lot,
He got into a drifted bank,
And we, we got upset.
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way,
Oh! What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Jingle bells, Jingle bells,
Jingle all the way!
Oh! What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Dashing through the snow,
In a one-horse open sleigh,
O'er the fields we go,
Laughing all the way.
Bells on bobtail ring,

Love me tender, love me sweet;
Never let me go.
You have made my life complete.
And I love you so.
Love me tender, love me true;
All my dreams fulfill,
For my darling, I love you,
And I always will.
Love me tender, love me long;
Take me to your heart,
For it's there that I belong.
And we'll never part.
Love me tender, love me true;
All my dreams fulfill,
For my darling, I love you,
And I always will.
Love me tender, love me dear;
Tell me you are mine.
I'll be yours through all the years,
Till the end of time.
Love me tender, love me true;
All my dreams fulfill,
For my darling, I love you,
And I always will.

Where do I begin to tell the story
Of how great a love can be,
The sweet love story
That is older than the sea?
The simple truth about the love
She brings to me.
Where do I start?
With her first hello,
She gave a meaning
To this empty world of mine.
There'll never be another love
Another time.
She came into my life
And made the living fine.
She fills my heart.
She fills my heart
With very special things,
With angel songs,
With wild imaginings.
She fills my soul with so much love
That anywhere I go I'm never lonely.
With her along, who could be lonely?
I reach for her hand.
It's always there.
How long does it last?
Can love be measured
By the hours in a day?
I have no answers now,
But this much I can say:
I know I'll need her
Till the stars all burn away,
And she'll be there.
How long does it last?
Can love be measured
By the hours in a day?
I have no answers now,
But this much I can say:
I know I'll need her
Till the stars all burn away,
And she'll be there.

《Pretty Woman》
Sung By "Roy Orbison"
Pretty woman, walking down the street.
Pretty woman, the kind I'd like to meet.
Pretty woman, I won't believe you're not the truth.
No one could look as good as you. (Mercy)
Pretty woman, won't you pardon me.
Pretty woman I couldn't help but see.
Pretty woman, that you look lovely as can be.
Girl, are you lonely just like me. (Mercy)
Pretty woman, stop a while.
Pretty woman, talk a while.
Pretty woman, give your smile to me.
Pretty woman, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Pretty woman, look my way.
Pretty woman, say you'll stay with me.
Coz I need you.
I'll treat you right.
Come with me baby, be mine tonight.
Pretty woman, don't walk on by.
Pretty woman, don't make me cry.
Pretty woman,don't walk away Okey
If that's the way it must be,okey
I guess I'll go home,it's late
There will be tomorrow night, but wait
What do I see?
Is she walking back to me?
Yeah she's walking back to me.
Oh,pretty woman!Listen to the rhythm
Of the falling rain,
Telling me just what a fool I've been.
I wish that it would go
And let me cry in vain,
And let me be alone again.
The only girl I care about
Has gone away,
Looking for a brand-new start.
But little does she know
That when she left that day,
Along with her she took my heart.
Rain, please tell me now,
Does that seem fair
For her to steal my heart away,
When she don't care?
I can't love another
When my heart's somewhere far away.
The only girl I care about
Has gone away,
Looking for a brand-new start.
But little does she know
That when she left that day,
Along with her she took my heart.
Rain, won't you tell her
That I love her so.
Please ask the sun
To set her heart aglow.
Rain in her heart,
And let the love we know
Start to grow.
Listen to the rhythm
Of the falling rain,
Telling me just what a fool I've been.
I wish that it would go
And let me cry in vain,
And let me be alone again.
Oh, listen to the falling rain.
DE LE DA LA, DE LE DA LA.
Oh, listen, listen to the falling rain,

hearts be acceptable in thy sight here tonight,
By the river of Babylon,
There we sat down.
Yeah we wept,
When we remembered Zion.

Ah... Ah...

Introduction
Benjamin Earl Soloman, better known as Ben E. King, was born on September 28,1938 in Henderson, North Carolina. At age of 11 he moved with his family to Harlem in New York City. King sang in church choirs during his youth and formed his own band in high school. His father's restaurant in Harlem was the site for his first professional performances.
In 1956 King joined the singing group known as the “Crowns”, which in 1959 changed their name to the “Drifters”. King then sang and co-wrote his first hit song,“There Goes My Baby. ” King went on to sing the popular “Save the Last Dance for Me,”“I Count the Tears,”and “Spanish Harlem. ”
In 1961 King worked with Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller to compose the soulful“Stand By Me,” which King then sang and turned into an immediate hit song. King has a versatile blend of Rhythm and Blues songs and smooth vocal style that also appeals to Pop fans. During the 1960's King kept busy with many exciting concert hall and TV performances, both in America and abroad.
Later he went on to record the hits,“Don't Play That Song,”“That's When It Hurts,”“I(Who Have Nothing)”and “Supernatural Thing-Part I. ”
With the 1986 re-release of“Stand by Me”as the theme song of the movie with the same title, King's popularity again rose as younger audiences began to sing along with the stark melody that had previously captivated their parents a quarter of a century earlier.
The Columbia movie “Stand by Me,” with fledgling director Rob Reiner, tells the story of a group of young teen-age boys trying to grow up. What should you believe in and be willing to stand up for in America during the early 1960's? Do you need to have a difficult time in finding your own answers to these questions, or can we help each other out as we travel down the bumpy road of our lives? Does a shared private space go a long way to make your life more enjoyable, and problems smaller?
Stand by Me
Vocal: Ben E. King
When the night has come,
And the land is dark,
And the moon is the only light we'll see,
No, I won't be afraid.
Oh, I won't be afraid.
Just as long as you stand, stand by me.
So darling, darling, stand by me.
Oh, stand by me.
Oh, stand, stand by me, stand by me.
If the sky that we look upon should tumble and fall
Or the mountain should crumble to the sea,
I won't cry; I won't cry.
No, I won't shed a tear,
Just as long as you stand, stand by me.
And darling, darling, stand by me.
Oh, stand by me.
Whoa, stand now, stand by me
Stand by me.
Darling, darling, stand by me,
Oh, stand by me.
Oh, stand now, stand by me, stand by me.
Whenever you're in trouble,
Just stand by me.
Oh, stand by me, whoa!

Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on,
'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven.
Would you hold my hand if I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand if I saw you in heaven?
I'll find my way through night and day,
'Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven.
Time can bring you down, time can bend your knee;
Time can break your heart, have you begging please,
Begging please.
Beyond the door there's peace,
I'm sure and I know there'll be no more tears in heaven.
Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?
Would you be the same if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on,

Hello, darkness, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again.
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain,
Still remains within the sound of silence.
In restless dreams I walked alone,
Narrow streets of cobblestone.
’Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp.
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light,
That split the night and touched the sound of silence.
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share,
But no one dare disturb the sound of silence.
“Fools,”said I,“you do not know,
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you.”
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed in the wells of silence.
And the people bowed and prayed.
To the neon God they made,
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said:“The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls and tenement halls,
And whispered in the sound of silence.”

1、Hello, darkness, my old friend, I've come to talk with you again.
2、Because a vision softly creeping, left its seeds while I was sleeping. = A vision softly crept and left its seeds inside me while I was sleeping.
I was haunted by her vision.
Elm trees were planted along the road.
4、’Neath the halo of a street lamp, I turned my collar to the cold and damp. =Beneath the halo of a street lamp, I turned my collar to protect myself against the cold and damp air in a night.
’neath = beneath(介词)在……
如:’til= until, ’cause = because等等。
The halo of the moon tonight is bright.
5、neon light = coloured light
flash:(用作名词)闪光、闪烁 如:a flash of lightning闪电;
split(用作动词)劈开、割裂、使分离
例如:Tom spit the wood with an ax.
6、People talking without speaking, people hearing without listening, people writing songs that voices never share. = People talking quietly with their heart, people hearing with their sense and singing songs in their heart without being heard by others.
人们无需言语即可交谈是一种心灵的默契与和谐;
人们无需倾听却能听见是一种意识的理解与交流;
7、No one dare disturb the sound of silence.
Who says he dare not do it?
Much to my surprise, he dares to try it.
8、Silence like a cancer grows. = Silence can develop like a kind of disease.
9、Hear my words that I might teach you, take my arms that I might reach you. = Please listen to my words so that I might teach you, please hold my arms so that I might lead you.
10、But my words like silent raindrops fell, and echoed in the wells.
I heard an echo in the woods.
The mountains echoed with my shouts.
11、And the sign said:“The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls and whispered in the sound of silence.”(霓虹的)招 牌说:“先知们的话写在地铁墙与公寓的走廊上,也在寂静之声中轻轻回荡。”
prophet = person who knows in advance
Up where We Belong
Who knows what tomorrow brings. In a world, few hearts survive. All I know is the way I fell. And it's real, I keep it alive. The road is long. There are mountains in our way. But becomes the stair every day. Love lifts us up where we be- long. Where the eagles cry, on a mountain high. Love lifts us up where we belong. But the world below, where the clear winds blow. Some hand on to us to be. Live their lives looking behind. All we had is here and now. All our lives out there to find. The road is long. There are mountains in our way, but we climh the step every day. Love lifts us up where we belong. Where the eagles cry, on a mountain high. Love lifts us up where we belong. But the world we know, where the clear winds blow. Time goes by. No-time to cry. Like you and I, alive, baby. **(Repeat twice)
when a child is born
When a child is born
A ray of hope flickers in the sky A tiny star lights up way up high
All across the land dawns a brand new morn", This comes to pass when a child is born.
A silent wish sails the seven seas The winds of change whisper in the trees
And the walls of doubt crumble tossed and torn, This comes to pass when a child is born.
A rosy dawn settles all around You got to feel you"re on solid ground
For a spell or two no one seems forlorn This come to pass when a child is born.
(Spoken) and all of this happens bacause the world is waiting.waiting for one child
black, white, yellow,no one knows, but a child that will grow up and turn tears
to laughter, hate to love, war to peace, everyone and everyone"s name, and suffering will be words to be forgotten forever.
It"s all a dream, an illusion now. It must come true some time soon somehow
All across the land dawns a brand new morn This comes to pass when a child is born.
When I was young,
I'd listen to the radio,
Waiting for my favorite songs.
When they played I'd sing along,
It made me smile.
Those were such happy times,
And not so long ago.
How I wondered where they'd gone.
But they're back again,
Just like a long lost friend.
All the songs I love so well.
Every sha-la-la-la
Every wo-wo still shines,
Every shinga-linga-ling,
That they're starting to sing so fine.
When they get to the part
Where he's breaking her heart,
It can really make me cry,
Just like before,
It's yesterday once more.
Looking back on how it was
In years gone by,
And the good time that I had
Makes today seem rather sad.
So much has changed.
It was songs of love
That I would sing to them,
And I'd memorize each word.
Those old melodies
Still sound so good to me,
As they melt the years away.
Every sha-la-la-la
Every wo-wo still shines,
Every shinga-linga-ling,
That they're starting to sing so fine.
All my best memories
Come back clearly to me.
Some can even make me cry,
Just like before,
It's yesterday once more.
Every sha-la-la-la
Every wo-wo still shines,
Every shinga-linga-ling,
That they're starting to sing so fine.
Every sha-la-la-la
Every wo-wo still shines,
Every sha-la-la-la,
Every wo-wo still shines……
